The Dunlop Drivers Cup is an event organised by Dunlop every year. Dunlop is known as an sporty and racy tire-brand with a very rich racing history. The Dunlop Drivers cup brought a lot of candidates and talents closer to their dream, a career in motorsport. The first audition was held on Wednesday june 16.
Only 100 candidates we’re selected from over 1000 registrations on www.dunlopdriverscup.nl. Stefan was one of the lucky few and gave all his best in the audition. All candidates gathered in Amsterdam at the Raceplanet Kart center owned by Bleekemolen family. To select the 20 talents various activities like changing tires, quad driving and a “bungee run” where judged. The most important part of the day was obviously karting, because that’s where the real talent stand up! Judged and to the accompaniment by professional racing driver Jeroen Bleekemolen all the candidates drove a karting finale. The experience Stefan gained on track-days, karting and time-attack races proved to be very usefull. As he made it to the finals.
Stefan is training as hard as possible to be as prepared as possible. Being a racing driver means you have to be and stay extremely fit both strength and cardiovascular fitness is important. Running, mountainbiking and power training 6 days a week is his schedule at the moment. Some karting sessions are scheduled to stay focussed and keeping the reflexes up. The finale will take place on Wednesday oktober 6 at Circuit Park Zandvoort. Jeroen Bleekemolen predicts a fierce battle for glory. Jeroen Bleekemolen and the other experts will judge all the candidates in various aspects. Offcourse driving a racing car is the most spectacular but the drivers need to be tested at their fitness, ability to cope with different media attention and car control. The one talent who’s overall performance is the best will win the grand prize. The winner is awarded with an full racing education and the possibility to gain an official racing license. The cherry on the cake is a test an selection day with a real racing team. The winner will test a “BRL light” racing car owned by Fanzonely racing team. When Stefan wins this competition and is crowned with the desirable title, a career in motorsport will certainly be possible and the one and only goal.
Offcourse there can be only one winner. If he doesn’t win the grand price there’s still enough to fight for.
