Yesterday we had a great day @ Spirit Racing in Twisk, end of last year Rob contacted us as he wanted to lose some of the Clio’s weight to make the car more competitive for the Dutch Supercar Challenge Sport 1 class. In the Dutch Supercar Challenge cars are divided into clases using their power to weight figure. Here you can read all about the classes and races in the Dutch Supercar Challenge: Dutch Supercar Challenge Website.
The Spirit Racing car is a newly build Renault Sport Clio MK3 chasis, but further modified to loose weight, improve aerodynamics and last but not least a more powerful engine. In 2008 Spirit Racing succesfully won the Sport-2 championship and they where promoted to the Sport 1 class. In 2009 they ended third competing against Lotus, BMW and other competitors. Yes the Clio is one quick car after the team @ Spirit Racing took care of it.
Time to show of the work Kel and i did yesterday @ Spirit Racing. We started off with installing a grey tinted Plastics 4 Performance Lexan rear window, as it uses the OEM borders it looks like standard but is actually 4 kg ligther then the standard rear screen:
Then it was time to install the hardcoated front screen, this screen is scratch resistant and can be used with windscreen wipers. Also finished with an Oem border for a great looking finish:
For the front windows we needed to adapt the lightweight polyesther doors, we made a cut in the door panel do the window could be fixated at the bottom and top:
The it was time to put in the rear “custom made” quarters. As Rob was suffering with a lot of in car heat we made grey tinted rear quarters with intergrated nace vents. Thats way the in car temprature will dramaticly decrease, making his life a bit more easy whilst driving on the limit. Some pictures:
Compared to standard glass the car saved approximatily 25 kg’s (at the top of the roll angle), furthermore these windows are Fia approved, don’t shatter like glass when a rock hits it and are fire safe as they are self extinguishing. As a technical partner for Spirit Racing we want to wish them the best of luck in the 2011 season, hopefully they can take a lot of podiums and the overall class win!
